There’s tarama which is a spread that seems to consist of tiny salmon eggs. It’s brilliant and I wished they had it here in the states. There are over 10 different types of smoked salmon that you can purchase, while at my local supermarket there is only 1 kind.
There’s also fois gras which I’ve said many times before that I wouldn’t eat, yet I just finished a whole jar in the time span of two days. What it is is geese liver. What they do is inhumane but they basically place a pipe down the geese’s throat and stuff mayo and fatty stuff into the liver. The geese dies from obesity and obvious health problems. Laws have been passed and these farmers claim that they’re not cruelly stuffing these geese anymore but how else would you make rich, creamy liver spread? As much as I see the cruelty in this practice, I realize that the French will stick to their fois gras just as much as we Americans obsess over our rich meats.
Then there’s le boulangerie which makes the best bread and croissants, Lee’s sandwich definitely has nothing on this shit. Been eating it the French way and that’s by holding it around and just eating it. It’s been my choice of breakfast as well.
Me being the sweet tooth, I love the fact that the French love desserts for breakfast and after dinner. For breakfast you normally eat sweet croissants and pastries. And dinner is always topped with dessert as well as wine.
Speaking of wine, I tried warm wine today from a stand. It was delicious and actually sweet. I could barely taste the alcohol. Definitely a nice thing to try.
